NORTH CAROLINA - TYLER HANOVER
RISE selects North Davidson High School standout TYLER HANOVER  asthe Gatorade North Carolina Baseball Player of the Year
In its third decade of honoring the nation's best high school athletes, Gatorade joined with RISE Magazine to name senior second baseman TYLER HANOVER of NORTH DAVIDSON HIGH in Lexington as its 2007-08 North Carolina Baseball Player of the Year.
The 5-foot-7, 165-pound senior second baseman produced a .493 batting average, 42 RBI, 22 runs scored and 12 home runs this season, leading the Knights (23-4) to the Class 4A state quarterfinals, where they fell to Ardrey Kell, 4-3. A Louisville Slugger High School Pre-Season Second Team All-American and Perfect Game USA National Showcase selection, Hanover also compiled a 1.095 slugging percentage and a .533 on-base percentage this spring. As North Davidson's closer this spring, he posted a 1.70 ERA and three saves in 12 innings.
Hanover has maintained a 3.02 weighted GPA in the classroom. A member of his school's Brutal Black Spirit Club, he donates his time as a camp counselor and instructor on behalf of the baseball team's youth developmental program. Hanover volunteers as part of multiple community-service initiatives on behalf of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
“He brought in a sense of toughness,” said North Davidson head coach Mike Meadows. “We had a pretty good team, and he brought a sense of mental toughness and competitiveness that took our players to another level. He's a jovial kid, but when he crosses the line it's all business. He's a sparkplug. To hit .493 with 12 jacks when people know you're the man, that's even more impressive. I've never coached a kid like him.”
Hanover has signed a National Letter of Intent to play baseball at Louisiana State University this fall.

Saturday's Softball Championships brought the 2007-2008 North Davidson athletic season to an end. It's been a honor to cover the teams and athletes at North in our first year. We have seen some amazing accomplishments by our young men and women over the past school year and were glad that we could be just a small part of that excitement. Congratulations to the all the athletes who competed so hard and gave the fans at North Davidson so much enjoyment. Documenting the achievements of the Black Knights was at times a bit overwhelming when you consider the accomplishments of our teams this year. We were able to watch the girls basketball team make a deep run into the playoffs after winning the CPC tournament in a real nail biter against Mount Tabor. The Wrestling team surprised a few people with a very young team, but made a respectable showing in the post season. The Track team was very impressive this year coming up just short in the CPC meet, but went all the way to state and did very well. Baseball and Softball had us dreaming of state championships and they gave us their very best and while they both came up just inches short of the finish line, they laid a solid foundation for the future, and brought a new level of respect for the North Davidson Athletic programs.

We are very proud to be part of the new tradition of excellence at North Davidson.
Myndsports has been able to bring news of the Black Knights to people all over the world. Our stats from the website are incredible.  From January 27, 2008 through June 3, 2008 myndsports has logged 484,265 visitors from 47 Countries, all 50 states and 276 cities in North Carolina. Why are we so popular? It's because we give people what they want, coverage of the North Davidson Black Knights! The majority of our visitors are connected to North Davidson no matter where life takes them after leaving this area. Once a Black Knight always a Black Knight!
We tried a new experiment with the softball championships to see the response and it was overwhelming. Myndsports actually covered the game live over the internet and while we had some bugs during the games, it was a huge success. Barbara Byerly perhaps one of the biggest North Davidson fans on this planet along with Jason Israel used their cell phones the entire game to give us pitch by pitch updates so we could report it on the website. Friday night we only had 739 people online and this was without advertising that we were going to cover the game. Saturday word spread quickly and at our highest peak we had 3,410 people online watching the game updates. People care about North Davidson and it is evident by the large crowds that attend our events both home and away.
We would be remiss if we did not thank all those who contribute articles and information but for fear of leaving someone out we won't mention all their names, but we thank you! A special thank you to some of the students that have helped us out the site, Hudson Essick, Conner Riech, CK Lanning, and Josh Moser. We thank our visitors for supporting our sponsors who make all this possible.
Myndsports will be taking a break for the next couple of weeks to re-design a new website in anticipation of the 2008-2009 seasons. Keep checking in to see the progress as we plan on stepping up our game to match the level of talent that we cover. Have a very safe and happy summer and we will see you in a few weeks.
